Trauma-informed therapy

Healing that moves at the pace your nervous system can hold

Trauma doesn’t always look like a single dramatic event. Often, it’s the slow accumulation of not feeling safe, seen, or supported over years – in childhood, or in relationships. I work primarily with childhood, long-term, and relational trauma, online.

What is trauma-informed therapy?

It isn’t a single technique – it’s an approach that puts safety, pacing, and your existing coping mechanisms first, before asking you to revisit anything difficult. Therapy adapts to your readiness, not the other way around.

You might find this helpful if –

You grew up in an environment that didn’t feel emotionally safe or consistent

Patterns from childhood or past relationships keep showing up in how you relate to people now

Your emotional reactions sometimes feel bigger than what triggered them in the moment

You struggle to feel safe or fully relax, even in relationships that are good for you

How the work unfolds

Every step is collaborative and paced to what feels manageable for you – not a fixed script.

Early focus

Building steadiness

We start by understanding how you already respond to stress – how your body reacts when something triggers you, how you relate to your emotions, and what you already do to cope or comfort yourself. From there, we work on helping you feel calmer and steadier when triggered, adding new tools alongside what already works for you.

Going deeper

Understanding what happened

Once you feel more able to stay grounded, we move into more fully exploring the experiences themselves, and how they continue to shape your life today – through Internal Family Systems (IFS) and inner child work, reconnecting with the parts of yourself that trauma affected.

Throughout

Support for your emotions

I draw significantly on DBT throughout this process, particularly for managing difficult emotions and changing your relationship with them. CBT comes in more selectively, where it’s useful for a specific pattern or situation.
